I'm in the process of a Flandre Scarlet cosplay, though I'm having a lot of trouble with her 'wings'. The only thing I'm sure about is concealing the wing harness underneath the hatch/flap thing on the character's vest. I'm considering using wire in order to get the shape of the wings and cover it with tape for the bumps and coat them with plaster then sand them down to get the smooth appearance. But I doubt the wings will be sturdy. As for those balls and prisms on her wings, I'm thinking of casting them out of resin from a negative mold then attaching them to the spheres with some sort of wire in order for them to sway a little. The shape of the crystals will be flat on the top, much like this.

I'm doubting my idea so far, not exactly the best person for constructing things. Is there a better way of constructing these wings?

I've seen so many versions of these wings done, personally make sure that the wing span is at a length that is comfortable for you first off. Instead of having them stick straight out imagine them to be just the bones of bat/dragon wings that have been tucked in somewhat, therefore the weight isn't spread out so precariously.

Also, when is this costume's due date?

Costume's due for a con on April 23rd this year. Thanks for the suggestion about the wing structure, I might have made them be all obtrusive and they'd get damaged real easy or become a nuisance for walking in. I want to say I'm going to make them a few inches longer than my arms.

So far, I've been seeing those prism shards being made out of paper, as cut outs and origami. The prisms got me stumped.

I would suggest making them separate so they can travel a bit easier and be less bulky to pack. I was thinking put them onto steel rods and wear a corset under the costume. Have the back two bones of the corset be open steel piping and simply slide the rods down into those. I don't know, I always thought that would be the best way to put wings on.
