Kicking off the new thread with this little piece of glory I found while out shopping yesterday.

The best fuckin' part? It was in FYE. Along with a stack of Kingom Hearts snuggies.

what i want to know is, where the heck the Akatsuki snuggies are? i've seen pictures, so at least one exists somewhere in the world. you'd think they'd put it out before christmas... i literally cannot WAIT to see someone try to wear one as an actual Akatsuki cloak...

ALSO FYE has one of the most magical cosplay sections i've ever seen. they pick the oddest things to sell- the one at our mall has a rather large weapon selection, those damned headbands, and straw sandals. FYE, what.

I remember seeing those wigs at an FYE near me a couple months ago. The best part is the ghetto Naruto on the front. Note that it isn't actually Naruto. So they can't get sued.

http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2389919/ - Avatar cosplay, it has begun.. the basic idea of attempting to cosplay a Na'vi is failure. They are maybe 9'6" and slender as hell, and lanky - it fails. Plus the Na'vi have flat cat-like features and large eyes. >:| Brak looks more like the Na'vi

It would be possible to cosplay one of those creatures given the right build and make up. And you'd need prosthetics. Without the prosthetics you look like one of those girls that run around Dragon*Con in fullbody cat makeup to attract attention. Of course that also includes the ability to APPLY them without looking like crap, which a lot of people can't do.

WTF, tall blue gelflings. Gets me every time. ><

As far as proportion, you would have to be an ectomorph to even attempt it. Also to have the shape of them would be an unhealthy weight for anyone to have. Also the proportion of Na'Vi to Human is rediculous. They are maybe 11 feet tall where the average human is 5'6" - sorry, I am a detail freak.

Then we should probably never attempt to cosplay anything but humans from Lord of the Rings, half the characters from the Fifth Element (Including the Opera Singer girl), Xerxes from 300, Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean, Most Summons in Final Fantasy, or anything else that is not highly appropriate to our human selves. Oh and if the character is not your height, that's out as well as far as accuracy. Oh, and most anime/manga/video games are out because we won't have that eye-to-face ratio. And no one should EVER attempt a pokemon because they're tiny little creatures not human-sized. Really, there are things to be detail oriented about and there are things to...not be detail oriented about. All of those I've listed above, I've seen done and I've seen done AMAZINGLY, with highly accurate details and they weren't the "appropriate" proportions.

So, if you saw an amazingly accurate Na'vi done by a slim, lanky person with prosthetics, beautiful airbrushing, contacts, clothing and weapons, would you still post them here as fuckery because they WEREN'T 11 feet tall?

Even if humans aren't built exactly like the Na'Vi, that doesn't mean that people have no chance of cosplaying them well. Hell, if we were going off of accuracy via body type, then every single cosplay for anime and most cartoon characters would be put here. After all, no one has size MM boobs or waists that are as thin as your arm.

To be honest, I actually kind of like the make-up job so far for that Na'Vi cosplay. They seem to be paying attention to detail for the most part.

I'd say the coat is what will throw most people. Though I have yet to see a Break that isn't terrible.

For me it's usually the wig. Even if the outfit is decent they always have some random straight white wig. That and his goofy ass rollerskate looking boots. I've been working on making his Emily for the last few days so I can have his costume in time for Momocon.

Here's hoping I don't suck.

Batman fuckery thread died or something so I'm posting this here.

http://fc01.devianta...rderface007.jpg

It's terrifying. Funny part? The guy didn't want to shave his goatee so he said he could use it as the pointy part of the Joker's chin. Hair =/= Jaw.

And now for something a little different: The "Just Breathe" dress from Ever After, one of the most beautiful costumes ever made for a movie. In case you're not familiar, here it is on exhibit:

http://www.everafter...everafter.shtml

Construction-wise, it's not too difficult but it's loaded with details: Embroidery, bullion embroidery, lace trims, etc. It's damn difficult to pull it off, but of the few people who have made it, nobody's even trying. The last one really kills me; she has the chrome-plated balls to charge $1950 for that wildly inaccurate thing. The dress is only one color; there are no stark white or deep gold details on it at all. For almost $2000, I expect it to be absolutely perfect down to the last detail and hand-sewn by Jesus himself...

*snip*

I dream of someday doing that dress, but took one look at the references and realized a) I need a few more years of experience and b) holy crap all that detail will be expensive as all hell and ridiculously time consuming.

Seeing it mangled like that makes me want to cry.
