What a moron. You are already staying in a hotel together. It's not like your screwing in the convention center where everone can see you. If she's in the mood, go for it.

Either a troll or poor attempt at showing off, I believe the only proper response is "only if it's in costume and you take pictures."

That's the only part I have an issue with. I don't go to cons to get converted. I go to have fun.

Ugh..I'm sooooo sick of people trying to bring religion into cons by means of worship services. (which are usually just christian services). I just hate how it seems like one religion is catered to and others left out.
Then again, maybe other religions don't see the need to try and convert a bunch of weeaboo.

Internet = SRS FUCKING BIZ!
Tell me then, how does what you wear reflect your religious affiliation...
...I just wanna make sure that if I dress up like a vampire, that I won't be as holy as the next cosplayer in an Organization jacket.

Gotta agree with 4ng31 here, the OP of that thread and some of the posters in that thread are complete idiots. Religion doesn't automatically equal idiocy, but there's an eerie correlation many times. Some of the most ignorant and hateful views I've ever seen were from Christians.
As for the 'no demon cosplay allowed plz', that's just hilarious. Reminds me of how my mother's Pentecostal preacher parents wouldn't let her celebrate Halloween as a kid, like if you pretend to be a devil for fun it makes it so or corrupts you or something. How progressive. So, I'm wondering, is it no demon/vampire cosplay just during their little service/'converting the sinners' exercise and they can save the demons and vampires for other times at the con, or are they condemning vampire/demon cosplay period. Either way, I smiled.
Anyways, about the OP's plans to convert, I hope he's smart and decides to keep to his little group. I'd like to think most people would take un-solicited spiritual advice with good humor and politely excuse themselves, but it could get ugly if they find someone who's hostile about it.
It really is rude to go to such an event and try to convert people, but I try to remember that they don't see it that way. To them, they're positive you're going to hell otherwise and they have to 'save' you. Of course, more than a polite invite does go against free will, but still, I try to be patient. I agree with the others who said they go to cons to get away from such concerns though, so it's annoying, but if it turns out they're harassing people, I'm sure they'll be reported to con security and dealt with.

Exactly what I was talking about, which is why I quoted that part from the OP. He said it as if it were a problem, that he needed to go "fix" by converting people. Or at least thats the vibe I'm getting. Which to me qualifies as facepalm worthy. I'm certainly not bashing their wanting to hang out together or even their choice of religion. Even if he was trying to convert people to to agnosticism (what I classify myself as), I still would have has the same reaction.

I had enough of that at my last con in London. There was a Islamic Peace Convention (Basically like a big open day with information and fair ground rides etc) in the same con centre. Now cosplayers and muslims got on fine throughout the day they asked for photos and we posed etc all happy smiley. But then by the end of the day the hardliners turned up and I was being accosted by some dude with a megaphone telling me if I didn't convert I would be killed along the with the rest of the 'Kaffirs'. I don't go to a con to have that kind of thing happen. If you believe in a divine creator then thats fine, attend a church, knock yourselves out and go in cosplay or whatever, I don't see the reason of bringing it to a con if the organisers wanted it be used as a Christian outreach programme they would have done it themselves.

On the flip side, though, churches like mine have a different take on it.
"Spreading the gospel" doesn't always mean "go forth and shove bibles down peoples throats to make them believe in Christ." Everyone knows actions speak louder than words - according to what I was taught, every venue and every day you should be spreading the word of Christ by living as an example of His teachings. You don't have to hop on a soap box and read Revelation to random passerby, you do have to be good, honest, caring, patient, forgiving, loving, everything that Christ calls us to be. Oddly enough, that can draw FAR more attention, over time, than preaching loudly from the middle of the quad. So, yes, everything is an outreach opportunity. People don't really respond to "you must do this." People respond very well when they see you have "something" in your life that's good - they begin to want it, too.
Which is not to say that all Christians are always happy and should always be perfect and all non-Christians are always miserable and never good people... but I've rambled enough on this I think. Point is, can't jump to conclusions about what a "Christian gathering" is and is not going to do, because beliefs and practices vary HUGELY between denominations, churches, and individuals, even if they're all of the same faith.
It looks like a lot of users are signing up to the forums at cos.com just to bust this guy's chops and make thinly veiled threats when he hasn't proposed doing anything wrong.
I'd pitch in my $0.02 on that thread, but I think BanzaiBrittany there said everything I would have.

For the record, aquarianfae is absolutely right. Idiocy knows no religion (or lack thereof). Some of the most ignorant and hateful things I have have ever heard have come from Atheists, Wiccans and all those other groups who are supposed to be "tolerant" by their very nature.

For the most part, I agree, but I do bristle a bit at BanzaiBrittany's implication that there is Christian-bashing going on just for lulz or out of childhood spite. The problem is that Christianity is a mainstream religion with many denominations leaning heavily on evangelicalism. You don't see that aggressive emphasis on conversion nearly as much in other religions present in the United States.
Blargle... posted my own reply.

Yeah I was born into it as well and left home as soon as I could. I knew since I was pretty young some things were just not right about it. My parents didn't even want me to go to college. They wanted me to go to Bethel and paint for the Watchtower -_- Oh god I went there once and I think prison would give you more freedom. Sure all your bills are paid for but they tell you when to eat, when to work, when to clean, what you can and cannot watch. No video games or music that isn't "kingdom melodies" Ug bullet through the brain plz.
I'm sorry it's been so harmful to your family. I know my parents are completely misty eyed and another who goes to the hall cannot do wrong in their eyes because "of how they love god properly." They go screwed out of alot of money in some bad business choices with other Witnesses. Alot of people that I was forced to hang around were extremely two faced. My parents refuse to talk to me anymore than every 3-6 months, because you know... I'm such a sinner :/ LOL
